This is a close up to show the texture the stitches create.

The trees have been shaded and the stitching of the foreground has begun.

The background has been airbrushed onto silk with dyes and the beginings of the machine ebroidered trees in the background are shown'
These two pieces were part of the collection of my work on display at a small show this weekend. Seven of us had what is becoming known as a "pop up Gallery". This was held at an old Pickle factory, that has been repurposed and is now an area rented to Acupuncture practioners, Chiripractic Doctors and anyone who needs space to work.

From Sketch to Stitch.
This Pastel painting was the inspiration for a small embroidery of trees in the sun. The threads that I chose were yellows, greens blues and purples.

Well here are a couple of pieces I am working on at the moment. Both pieces are inspired by local landscapes, that have been photographed, one has been sketched in colored pencil and then I have painted the silk background, before I  have begun the the thread painting.

Inspiration for new pieces.

On a walk in Corbetts Glen in Brighton NY, one summer day, I took photographs that I would use as the basis for my work.

First I sketched out my design, and focusing on certain areas, capturing the sunlight filtering through the trees. This was then sketched again onto the plain silk. Resist was applied to outline the basic design, this allows me to apply silk paint to the silk, without the colors bleeding. The dyes are fixed by ironing and then the silk is washed. It is now ready, for me to begin adding the stitches.
